Lovely Molly (2011)
Directed by: Eduardo Sánchez
When newlyweds Molly (Gretchen Lodge) and Tim (Johnny Lewis) move into the house of Molly’s deceased parents, it’s not long before they start to experience more than just bumps in the night. Is someone there, or is it in Molly’s mind?
Well, I won’t directly spoil the experience by telling you – and in any case, it’s left (annoyingly) open. Sánchez starts self-referrentially with amateur video footage though most of the movie is conventionally filmed. Early on, the director uses sound and deep shadow to produce some good scary moments, and the acting from newcomer Gretchen Lodge is very impressive.
But it’s not long before the movie’s momentum starts to dwindle, and a couple of key revelations lack the impact they should have had. It’s certainly watchable, but not as good as you’d hope.
